Kristoff De Nobrega Cleared of Murder Charges

News

Kristoff De Nobrega is now a free man after Justice Gino Persaud upheld a no-case submission at the High Court in Georgetown, concluding the murder proceedings against him.

Following the ruling, De Nobrega’s attorney, George Thomas, stated to reporters that the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence to support the charge. “At the close of the case for the prosecution, we would have made a no-case submission which the judge ruled on today, and we were successful. Mr. De Nobrega is a free man,” Thomas confirmed.

De Nobrega, a Lance Corporal, was accused of murdering 23-year-old Quindon Bacchus, who was shot fatally on June 10, 2022, at Haslington New Scheme, East Coast Demerara (ECD). Throughout the proceedings, he consistently maintained his innocence.

The case had initially moved to the High Court after Magistrate Fabayo Azore determined that a prima facie case had been established during the preliminary inquiry. Subsequently, De Nobrega was committed to stand trial at the next sitting of the Demerara Assizes and had remained on remand pending the hearing.

In a related matter, two other officers—Lance Corporal Thurston Simon and Cadet Officer Dameion McClennon—face separate charges for allegedly attempting to obstruct justice by providing false information to investigators during the probe. Their cases are still ongoing.
