A man was remanded to prison on Friday after being formally charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking following a Customs Anti‑Narcotic Unit (CANU) operation in Georgetown.
Rondell Melville appeared before Magistrate Singh on February 27, 2026, and was charged with possession of 3.072 kilograms of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. He pleaded not guilty. Bail was refused and the matter was adjourned to March 26, 2026.
The charge stems from a CANU search conducted on Thursday, February 26, at a residence located at Lot 20 Durban Street Lodge, Georgetown. Acting on information, officers discovered several parcels containing cannabis during the search. The narcotic was subsequently weighed and recorded at 3.072 kg.
Melville was arrested at the scene and taken to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected drugs. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
