Shakeel Lawrence, a 26-year-old mason from Kitty, was released on bail on Thursday after appearing before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. Lawrence faces charges of malicious damage to property.

The charge alleges that on May 7, 2025, at Ketley Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, Lawrence maliciously damaged the left front passenger door and glass of motorcar PAC 5043, owned by Dewani Lampkin, causing an estimated $324,900 in damages.
During the proceedings, the prosecution outlined that Lawrence and Lampkin are not friends but are acquainted, as Lawrence has accused Lampkin of having an affair with his girlfriend. The court heard that on May 6, Lampkin had parked his car at his residence. The following day, at approximately 2:43 AM, Lampkin was awakened by loud noises outside and allegedly witnessed Lawrence throwing a flammable substance at his vehicle. When Lampkin confronted him, Lawrence reportedly verbally abused him and reiterated his accusations.
The prosecution objected to bail, noting that Lawrence was already on bail for a robbery charge committed in Berbice and had a forthcoming court date for a break and enter charge. They argued that he poses a flight risk and could potentially interfere with the victim or commit further offences if released.
Lawrence was represented by Attorney-at-law Audreanna Thompson, who argued for his release. She stated that her client was willing to accept any conditions set by the court. Thompson emphasized that, while there were allegations of other offences, Lawrence has not yet been convicted. She also noted that both parties had exchanged words on the day of the incident.
Magistrate Azore considered Lawrence’s history of appearing in court for his Berbice matter before granting him bail in the amount of $150,000. The case has been adjourned until July 2, 2025.
