A minibus driver has been arrested after police discovered him parked along the Lima Public Road on the Essequibo Coast with 20 school-aged passengers and several alcoholic beverages inside the vehicle.

According to Police Headquarters, the incident occurred around 1:30 PM. During routine patrols, officers noticed the minibus parked on the eastern side of the roadway with the young passengers onboard. Upon approaching the vehicle, they observed what appeared to be alcoholic beverages present within the bus.
The driver was instructed to proceed to the Anna Regina Police Station, where a thorough search of the bus was conducted in the presence of relevant authorities. During the search, several bottles suspected to contain alcoholic beverages, along with other items, were found inside the vehicle.
The students were subsequently handed over to a Child Care Officer for further intervention to ensure their safety and well-being.
The driver has been arrested and remains in police custody as investigations continue. The minibus has also been lodged as part of the ongoing inquiry into the matter.
