During the ongoing Budget Debate, Manickchand emphasized that the government’s agenda is clear and aligned with the needs of the people: cleaner communities, reliable garbage collection, responsive health services, and accessible education. She assured citizens, “We will deliver on our promises.”

To facilitate these ambitious goals, local government bodies will benefit from increased subventions. Each of the 70 Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) will receive $30 million, while each of the 10 municipalities will get $50 million to effectively carry out their responsibilities.

Furthermore, Manickchand highlighted plans for targeted investments, including new waste disposal initiatives. Eight new landfill sites will be established across Regions Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Nine, and Ten. These sites will not only focus on waste disposal but will also incorporate options for recycling.

The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for citizens, aiming to create happier communities through practical initiatives and infrastructure development.
