Ministry of Labour Investigates Fatal Workplace Accident in East Coast Demerara

The Ministry of Labour has launched an investigation into a tragic workplace accident that claimed the life of 28-year-old Dayrovis Martinez Mendoza on Monday. Mendoza, a resident of Foulis, died when a 15-foot high and 120-foot long fence collapsed, trapping him beneath the debris.

Labour Minister Keoma D. Griffith visited the site shortly after the incident, extending condolences to Mendoza’s family, friends, and colleagues on behalf of the government.

Officers from the Occupational Safety and Health Department are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. The ministry has stated it will take “all necessary steps” to prevent similar incidents in the future and is committed to enhancing workplace safety and awareness throughout Guyana.

Additionally, the Ministry of Labour reaffirmed its dedication to enforcing occupational health standards and holding employers accountable for any violations.
