The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has approved a modified version of the Nomination Form required for the submission of Lists of Candidates by Political Parties in the upcoming General and Regional Elections.

This revision, proposed by Chief Election Officer (CEO) Mr. Vishnu Persaud, aims to enhance accuracy and prevent misuse of the forms. The Nomination Forms are essential for recording the details of Nominators for three key categories: the National Top-up List of Candidates, the Geographic Constituency List of Candidates, and the Regional Democratic Council List of Candidates.
The initiative follows significant controversies arising from the Local Government Elections in 2023, where numerous individuals claimed they did not sign as Nominators or were unaware of their signatures on the forms. Such issues delayed the processing of candidate lists and sparked public concern.
GECOM urges all potential candidates to utilize the updated form to accurately document the particulars and signatures of their Nominators. This is crucial to avoid any ambiguity and ensure the timely processing of candidate lists within the limited statutory time frame allocated for examination and corrections.
The modified Nomination Form includes a clear statement at the top of each page: “We the undersigned knowingly and willingly provide our particulars and append our signatures as Nominators for the National Top-up/Geographic Constituency/Regional Democratic List of Candidates for the Party.”
