In a recent statement, Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed highlighted the pressing issues faced by St. Ninian’s Primary School in Region 1 (Barima-Waini), where only 93 students are currently enrolled.

Following concerns raised about Micobie Primary School, Mohamed emphasized that St. Ninian’s is also grappling with significant challenges that have been reported multiple times to the Department of Education, the Regional Education Officer, and the Regional Executive Officer.
Key issues at St. Ninian’s Primary School include:
Lack of Running Water: Staff are forced to fetch water from a nearby pond to flush toilets, complicating daily operations and sanitation. This deficiency has led to the school sometimes closing early and has hindered the hot meal programme.
Deteriorating Facilities: The students’ washroom is in urgent need of repair, contributing to unsanitary conditions.
Unsafe Living Conditions for Teachers: The quarters provided for teachers lack a functioning washroom and are infested with bats, making them unsuitable for habitation.
Mohamed stated, “These conditions are deplorable and unacceptable for both students and teachers. Education cannot thrive where there is a lack of basic necessities such as water and sanitation.”
He called on the relevant authorities to take immediate action to resolve these issues, underscoring the need for a safe and conducive learning environment for all students and staff at St. Ninian’s Primary School.
