News Room Reports : Police have apprehended the mastermind behind a disturbing acid-throwing incident that left two women injured earlier this month at the intersection of Middle and East Streets. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Keron Daniels, a driver from Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara, has confessed to his role in the crime.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum confirmed that Daniels is cooperating with investigators and remains in custody as the investigation unfolds. The incident, which occurred on September 3, targeted 23-year-old Jilicia Leitch, with 20-year-old Nirmala Sukraj also suffering injuries during the attack.
According to sources, investigations revealed that Leitch was the primary target. She and Daniels had previously been in an intimate relationship that ended, yet Leitch was reportedly still pursuing him. Daniels indicated to investigators that ongoing tensions with Leitch led him to seek assistance from two men, including the prime suspect, to “rough her up.” However, the prime suspect suggested a more severe approach—using acid.
On the day of the attack, Daniels allegedly dropped off his wife at Balwant Singh Hospital before picking up the prime suspect and another masked accomplice. He provided the getaway vehicle and even acquired a false license plate to disguise it.
Reports state that it was the prime suspect who threw the acid on Leitch outside the city hospital, inadvertently injuring Sukraj in the process. Investigators are actively pursuing the prime suspect, who remains at large.
The situation has raised concerns within the community, prompting calls for increased safety measures and support for victims of such violent crimes. As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
