A Police Corporal is currently under close arrest for the alleged use of force while handling a matter at the West Central Mall, West Coast Demerara.
Part of the incident was captured by onlookers and shared on Facebook. In response, Police Headquarters issued a statement noting that the Guyana Police Force’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) is investigating the incident.

OPR Investigating Incident Involving Police Ranks and Civilians at West Central Mall
– Corporal Placed Under Close Arrest for Alleged Use of Force
June 6, 2025: The Guyana Police Force’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) is investigating an incident involving three Police ranks—a Corporal, a Lance Corporal, and a Constable—from Regional Division #3 and two male civilians. This incident occurred today (Friday, June 6, 2025), at approximately 12:30 hrs at the West Central Mall, Leonora, West Coast Demerara.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the ranks were responding to a disturbance involving several young males at the mall. Upon arrival, two males, a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old, both of Den Amstel, WCD, were pointed out to the ranks for behaving in a disorderly manner. The officers instructed them to leave the premises, but the individuals refused to comply, resulting in the ranks attempting to escort them out of the compound.
The matter is currently under investigation by the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR).
