HGP Nightly News : Authorities are currently investigating the alleged abduction of two Guyanese men, reportedly by a Venezuelan syndicate gang operating in the Eteringbang area.

On August 25, 2025, at approximately 5:00 PM, Superintendent R. Nedd, Officer in Charge of Crime in Region #7, contacted Dameon Williams, the son of one of the alleged victims, Fredrick Pollard, a 66-year-old boat captain from Bartica. Williams informed the police that his father operates a metal boat used for fuel transportation along the Cuyuni River.
Williams reported that Pollard departed Devil Hole Landing on August 21 at around 5:00 AM for a fuel-shuttling trip to Ekereku Backdam. On August 24 at 7:05 AM, Pollard contacted Williams, stating he was returning from Ekereku Backdam with an unknown male porter aboard his boat. Since that communication, Williams has had no further contact with his father.
On August 25, Williams received a call from an unknown individual who informed him that Pollard had been forcibly held by a Venezuelan syndicate gang while traveling near Botanamu Creek. Williams later confirmed this alarming information.
During the investigation, Williams denied any involvement in a social media post related to the incident and is currently providing formal statements as the investigation continues.
In a separate but related development, police contacted Collin Mathews, also known as ‘Blacks,’ a 36-year-old boat captain from San Martin, Venezuela. Mathews reported that he and nine passengers were near Black Water Mouth when they heard gunshots. Members of the syndicate gang allegedly held them at gunpoint, during which they observed Pollard and another man in the same creek, both appearing to be alive.
Mathews stated that the gang members took a drum of fuel from his boat before releasing them. To validate this account, police conducted video interviews with all nine passengers, who corroborated Mathews’ story. Written statements were subsequently taken from all parties involved.
The investigation remains active as authorities work to uncover the details surrounding this troubling incident.
