A Lance Corporal of Police is hospitalised following a collision between his motorcycle and a vehicle driven by a Region One councillor along the Kumaka Public Road on Monday morning.
The accident occurred at approximately 08:45hrs and involved motorcycle CR 3340, ridden by the police rank, and motor car PPP 9918, driven by a 55-year-old councillor of Haimaruni Village, Moruca.
According to preliminary investigations, the motorcycle was proceeding west along the southern side of the Kumaka Public Road when the driver of the motor car allegedly turned right into its path. The motorcycle collided with the front right side of the vehicle, throwing the officer onto the roadway and causing injuries to various parts of his body.
Public-spirited citizens rushed to the officer’s aid and transported him to the Kumaka District Hospital, where he was examined, treated, and admitted.
A breathalyser test conducted on the councillor returned no trace of alcohol. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are continuing.
