Kaieteur News Reports : A post-mortem examination has confirmed that seven-year-old Michael Hyderkhan, who was fatally struck by a collapsing goalpost at the Swan ball field last Friday, died as a result of lacerations to both kidneys and blunt trauma to the back.

Hyderkhan, a Grade Two pupil of Swan Primary School and a resident of Swan Village, lost his life after a goalpost toppled onto him during a football tournament held under floodlights at the community ground along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway. The incident occurred at approximately 20:00 hours, while Michael had accompanied his family to the event to support his father, who was among the players competing that evening.
At the conclusion of a match, several children entered the field and began playing near one of the goalposts. Michael was among them when the structure suddenly collapsed, striking him and pinning him to the ground. Persons at the venue immediately raised an alarm and rushed to his aid. He was quickly transported to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where, despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries approximately 30 minutes after arrival.
The post-mortem examination, conducted on Wednesday at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Georgetown, confirmed the cause of death as lacerations to both kidneys and trauma to the back.
His mother, Shenella Hyderkhan, said the goalpost fell directly onto her son’s stomach, leaving him trapped and in pain beneath the structure. Struggling to come to terms with her loss, she said, “I’m really trying to cope with the loss of my son.”
In a previous interview, the grieving mother suggested that the condition of the playing surface may have contributed to the goalpost’s collapse, noting that the sand-filled field combined with wet conditions may have caused the base of the structure to become unstable.
“I think the sand was wet and the post sink forward and fall,” she explained.
Michael’s body has since been handed over to his family. Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday.
