Quick Response Averts Disaster at Berbice Educational Institute Canteen

A fire at the Berbice Educational Institute (BEI) earlier today was swiftly controlled thanks to the prompt actions of the Guyana Fire Service.

The emergency call was received at 5:09 PM, and within minutes, three units were dispatched to the scene, including two fire tenders and one ambulance. Upon arrival, firefighters noticed smoke coming from the school’s canteen. Acting quickly, they executed a forced entry and successfully extinguished the blaze before it could escalate into a major disaster.

Fortunately, the fire caused only minor damage to a section of the wall. Investigations revealed that the fire was triggered by a deep fryer left unattended with oil inside, which overheated and ignited.

Investigations are ongoing to assess the situation further. The quick response of the fire service has prevented what could have been a significant disaster at the educational facility.
