A search and rescue operation is currently underway for two fishermen from Better Success, Region Two, who went missing at sea on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, after their vessel reportedly sank during severe weather conditions.

The missing men have been identified as Suraj “Anil” Moneer and his crewmate, known only as “Cheeky.” Family members reported that the pair departed for what was intended to be a three-day fishing trip. Relatives were reportedly in contact with the men as strong winds began to affect the area, but all communication ceased shortly thereafter, and subsequent calls to their mobile phones have gone unanswered.
The incident occurred during a period of adverse weather that impacted multiple vessels in the area. Swella Ramdial, a 57-year-old fisherman and the father of the missing Suraj Moneer, had also departed for a fishing trip around the same time in a separate boat.
Ramdial also encountered life-threatening difficulties when his vessel was overcome by the strong winds. Fortunately, he managed to swim safely to shore, though his boat and engine were lost to the sea.
While Ramdial’s survival has provided a glimmer of hope, the whereabouts of his son and his son’s crewmate remain unknown. Family members and local authorities are currently coordinating search efforts, clinging to the hope that the men will be found safe.
