Statement from Hon. Oneidge Walrond, Minister of Home Affairs

News

I have taken note of the comments made by some members of the Opposition—and the unmistakable sense of satisfaction with which they reacted to the recent unlawful intrusion at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Let it be clearly understood: while the Opposition was busy celebrating, the Guyana Police Force was diligently performing its duties. The perpetrator was swiftly identified, tracked, arrested, and will face the full consequences of his actions.

The Opposition should also remember that this is the same law enforcement system that apprehended the Regent Street bomber, whose actions led to the tragic death of a young child. The State intends to pursue the strongest penalties available under the law, including the death penalty, for this offense.

To all those who choose to applaud, excuse, or encourage criminal attacks on the State—take note. Crime will not be rewarded. Criminals will not be shielded.

The Ministry remains resolute:

  • We will uphold the law.
  • We will protect the State.
  • We will not be distracted by smokescreens or political theatrics.

Let this be clearly understood: those among us who believe they can outrun or outsmart the long arm of the law—just as the perpetrator believed this morning—your time will come, and it will come swiftly.

Law enforcement is working. The State is vigilant. No one who breaks the law will escape accountability.
