In a statement this morning, the Guyana Police Force identified the dead young man as Keroy Profit of Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara.

According to a Police statement, Profit was in the company of a group of students playing around at the Park when the other 17-year-old, who was known to him, armed himself with a pair of scissors and stabbed the youth to the neck.

The injured teenager collapsed at the scene and was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital, where he passed away while receiving medical attention.

The Police report said the 17-year-old suspect was arrested and remains in custody as a full investigation is underway. A number of eyewitnesses have been questioned. The incident was reportedly captured on nearby CCTV cameras. Police investigators have since extracted the video recording.

A post-mortem examination is to be performed on the body of Keroy Profit, while his assailant could face charges within days.

The fatal stabbing highlights the ongoing issue of youth violence in Georgetown and raises concerns about weapon accessibility among teenagers.
