A 19-year-old construction worker and two others, including a 17-year-old, have been arrested and are being questioned over the murder of Providence, East Bank Demerara resident, Mohammed Shaheed aka “Fizal” and “Artist”.
Shaheed was 69 years old.

In a statement this morning, the Police said it is suspected that the elderly man was murdered sometime between Saturday, May 16, 2026 and Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at his Parker Street, Providence home. He was last seen alive on May 16.
The man’s body was discovered in his home after calls to his phone went unanswered. Investigators who visited the scene said Shaheed’s body was found in a state of decomposition. There was no forced entry to the house.
However, a post-mortem examination found that the 69-year-old died from brain haemorrhage due to multiple blunt trauma to the head.
The Police investigation of the murder with the use of security cameras in the area led to the identification of several persons of interest.
A 19-year-old construction worker, who lives in the same street with the victim was arrested along with a 22-year-old porter from the nearby community of Peter’s Hall. The Police said further inquiries led to the arrest of a 17-year-old, who also lived in the same street with the victim. He has since been detained at a Juvenile facility.
Investigations are still active and the suspects could face themselves facing charges in the coming days.
The case highlights the vulnerability of elderly residents and the importance of security measures and regular check-ins on seniors living alone.
