The blaze, which completely destroyed the victim’s home, was reported to the Guyana Fire Service at approximately 5:05 a.m. Fire tenders from the nearby Onverwagt Fire Station were immediately dispatched to the scene; however, despite their rapid response, the structure was already engulfed.

Family and neighbors are grappling with the tragedy of the circumstances. Ms. Ramprashad, who lived in the home, was physically challenged and relied on a wheelchair for mobility due to complications from a diabetic foot condition.

At the time the fire broke out, the victim was alone. Her husband, 65-year-old Looknauth “Prame” Ramprashad, was reportedly away working in the community’s backlands.

Divisional Fire Officer Clive McDonald confirmed that the Guyana Fire Service has initiated a formal investigation to determine the origin and cause of the blaze. As of Tuesday morning, no official cause has been identified.

Authorities are continuing to examine the scene, and further updates are expected as the investigation into this fatal incident proceeds.
