Kord Sobers, 55, of Parfaite Harmonie, and Colin Cumberbatch, 31, of Kitty, were both charged with causing death by dangerous driving. The charges stem from the death of 36-year-old Ruddy Raymond of Jonestown, Lima, Essequibo Coast. Neither man was required to plead to the indictable charge, and both have been remanded to prison until their next court appearance on July 10, 2026.

The multi-vehicle collision involved a minibus (BAH 9443) driven by Cumberbatch and a motor lorry (GAF 1093) driven by Sobers. According to police reports, the accident occurred as follows:

The minibus was travelling north at a high rate of speed in the eastern lane of the western carriageway.

The lorry was travelling north in the western lane when it allegedly made a sharp right turn into the path of the minibus.

The minibus collided with the lorry, struck the median, toppled over, and subsequently impacted a southbound motor car (PJJ 1664).

Beyond the tragic death of Ruddy Raymond, the crash resulted in multiple injuries. Both the driver and the passenger of the motor car—23-year-old Abei Gravesande—sustained injuries, as did the minibus driver and seven of his passengers.
