Police are actively investigating an armed robbery that occurred late Tuesday night, June 9, 2026, which left a 21-year-old engineer from Wakenaam without his cash and personal property.

The robbery took place at approximately 11:30 p.m. in the vicinity of the Big Kiss Parking Lot. According to the victim, he was walking south when he was confronted by two men:
The first suspect approached from the front and threatened him with what appeared to be a firearm.
The second suspect approached from behind, placed the victim in a chokehold, and proceeded to empty his pockets.
The suspects reportedly stole $200,000 in cash and a Samsung S22 cellular phone before escaping in a black Toyota Fielder wagon traveling east.
Following a report filed at the Parika Police Station, officers launched an investigation that quickly led to the interception of the suspected getaway vehicle.
The authorities have made two significant arrests:
A 30-year-old driver: Found in possession of $59,060 during a search of the vehicle.
A 17-year-old labourer: A resident of Stewartville, West Coast Demerara, who was found in possession of $65,000.
The recovered cash and the black Toyota Fielder wagon have been lodged with the police. Both suspects are currently in custody assisting with the investigation, though formal charges have not yet been filed.
