The We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Party has voiced its support for the recent national appeal made by Amanza Walton-Desir, Leader of the Forward Guyana Movement, addressing the ongoing constitutional and parliamentary crisis in Guyana. Walton-Desir underscored the dangerous implications of the Speaker of the House’s refusal to convene a meeting to elect the Leader of the Opposition, a delay that she argues undermines democracy and national security.

In her appeal, Walton-Desir emphasized the grave risks faced by citizens when Parliament is unable to function effectively. The WIN Party shares these concerns, noting that while Members of Parliament from the ruling PPP enjoy comprehensive security and benefits funded by taxpayers, ordinary citizens are left vulnerable. Many Guyanese depend on public transportation and essential services that are negatively impacted by the inactivity of parliamentary oversight and sectoral committees.
“The committees on National Security, Foreign Relations, and Oversight are currently inactive at a time when geopolitical tensions and security threats are on the rise,” the WIN statement noted. “As Amanza Walton-Desir stated, ‘Azruddin Mohamed is to be sworn in as the Leader of the Opposition,’ yet the Speaker’s inaction blocks this vital process, jeopardizing the constitutional balance and the protection of the populace.”
WIN, led by Azruddin Mohamed, is committed to peaceful demonstrations demanding the immediate convening of the meeting to elect the Leader of the Opposition. The party is advocating for the restoration of parliamentary oversight to allow essential committees to resume their functions.
Walton-Desir’s appeal stresses the urgency of addressing this crisis, asserting that “democracy cannot be delayed” and that the people of Guyana deserve unhindered representation.
The WIN Party reaffirms its commitment to standing with the citizens of Guyana, ensuring their voices are amplified and constitutional democracy is vigorously defended at every turn.
