A 23-year-old laborer from West Meten-Meer-Zorg was sentenced to two years in prison this week after pleading guilty to a charge of break and enter and larceny.

Akeel Gittens appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court #1 on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
He was formally read a charge of break and enter and larceny, contrary to Section 229(a) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01. Gittens entered a guilty plea to the offense, and Magistrate Singh sentenced him to 24 months’ imprisonment.
Gittens was taken into police custody on Sunday, July 30, 2026, in connection with the unlawful entry and theft. Following the conclusion of the police investigation, the matter was brought before the court, leading to his swift conviction.
