Young Woman with Lupus Seeks Kidney Donor

Christal Ramsaywack, a 24-year-old woman diagnosed with lupus in 2016, is urgently seeking a kidney donor after her condition worsened significantly.

In an interview with the News Room, Christal recounted her recent health struggles, beginning with an intense fever on May 15, 2025. Initially, she remained calm, but after a visit to Woodlands Hospital, she learned that her situation was more severe than she anticipated.

“The doctor thought it might be dengue fever due to my symptoms, but that test was negative. He prescribed medication for the fever, which helped,” Christal explained. However, that same night, she began experiencing difficulty breathing and returned to the hospital, where doctors discovered fluid in her lungs.

Following an X-ray and further tests at the Georgetown Public Hospital, Christal was informed that her kidneys were failing, leading to the fluid buildup in her lungs. This condition is known as lupus nephritis, where the immune system mistakenly attacks the kidneys, causing inflammation and damage.

Currently, Christal is undergoing dialysis—a costly treatment that is provided free at the Georgetown Public Hospital, but requires her to be an inpatient. Discharged on June 15, doctors are considering surgery as she waits for a suitable kidney donor. They have recommended a transplant as her best course of action.

Over the past eight years, Christal has had to pause her education and temporarily stop working due to her illness. Compounding her challenges, her mother was recently diagnosed with colon cancer, adding to the family’s financial and emotional burdens. Her mother has postponed her own surgery to care for Christal.

“It makes you feel uncertain about your future,” Christal shared, expressing her hope for a donor.

She is specifically seeking a kidney donor with blood type O+ and urges anyone willing to help to contact her at 676-4129 or reach out to the hospital directly.
