Twelve Guyanese nationals were deported from the United States of America to Guyana on Tuesday, with two remaining in police custody in connection with serious offences.
Upon arrival, all twelve individuals were interviewed and profiled by the relevant authorities. Following the processing exercise, ten of the deportees were released into the care of relatives, with the understanding that they are to return at a later date.
However, two men were detained. A 42-year-old male, whose address is currently unknown, is in police custody in relation to a murder offence for which he was deported, while a 35-year-old male of no fixed address is being held in connection with domestic violence. The Guyana Police Force said the matter was handled in keeping with established procedures.
