I News Guyana Reports : A manhunt is underway for a Venezuelan national who fatally stabbed 30-year-old Toralpher Simon Harry during a scuffle early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 3:00 AM on the Vreed-en-Hoop public road, near the Bright Star Chinese Restaurant.
Harry, a porter with Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) and a resident of Lot 24 Best Village (Foreshore), West Coast Demerara, was out with a friend, Naipaul Sukhdeo, after attending a Car and Bike Show at the Leonora National Stadium. The pair stopped at a hotdog stall shortly after 2:30 AM when an argument broke out between Harry and an unknown Venezuelan national.
Sukhdeo reported to investigators that as tensions escalated, a physical altercation ensued, moving to the southern side of the road near Dalga Luck Chinese Restaurant. During the scuffle, the suspect was seen brandishing a knife. Harry attempted to defend himself using his belt but ultimately fled to the northern side of the roadway, where he collapsed after sustaining a stab wound to his neck.
Witnesses state that blood was seen pouring from Harry’s neck before he fell in front of a nearby yard. The assailant then escaped in a minibus parked near the hotdog stand, heading east towards the Vreed-en-Hoop junction.
Sukhdeo rushed to Harry’s side, where he discovered the severity of his friend’s injuries. Harry was transported to the West Demerara Regional Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending doctor.
Police processed the scene, recovering a knife without a handle, suspected to have bloodstains, and a brown belt. Efforts to canvass the area for CCTV footage yielded several cameras within close proximity to the incident.
An examination of Harry’s body revealed a stab wound on the left side of his neck. His body has been transferred to Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
As of now, law enforcement is still working to apprehend the suspect, urging anyone with information to come forward. The community is left in shock as they mourn the loss of a young life to violence.
