Kings Defeat Warriors in High-Scoring Showdown at CPL

  • News

In a thrilling encounter at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground, the defending champions, Saint Lucia Kings, showcased their prowess by successfully chasing down a hefty total set by the Guyana Amazon Warriors in Game 13 of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Ackeem Auguste earned the Player of the Match award for his outstanding innings of 73 runs off just 35 balls, leading the Kings to a four-wicket victory with 11 balls to spare. This impressive win propels the Kings to second place in the league standings, accumulating six points from five matches, despite two matches being abandoned due to rain.

The Warriors, who won the toss and opted to bat first, set a formidable target with a total of 202/6. Romario Shepherd starred for the Warriors, scoring 73 runs off 34 balls, featuring five fours and seven sixes. However, despite their robust total, the Warriors could not defend it, suffering their first defeat of the tournament.

The Kings launched their chase with determination, even after losing Johnson Charles early on. A rapid powerplay saw them score 86 runs, effectively breaking the back of the target. The partnership between Tim Seifert and Auguste laid a solid foundation, with the Kings never looking back.

Although Auguste was dismissed, caught at cover by Jediah Blades with the score at 140-4, experienced players Tim David (25), Aaron Jones (16), and captain David Wiese (10 not out) ensured the Kings crossed the finish line, sending a strong message to the competition about their title defense ambitions.

As the tournament progresses, the Kings’ resilience and batting depth will surely keep them in contention for the CPL crown.
