Ewart Nicholson, a 25-year-old soldier from Belle View, West Coast Berbice, has been charged with the rape of a child under 16 years. Nicholson was arrested on August 19, 2025, by a police officer from the Mahdia Police Station and officially charged on August 26, 2025.
The allegations against Nicholson involve a 13-year-old female student from Region #8, with the incident reportedly occurring between May 1 and May 31, 2025.
Nicholson appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on August 26, where Senior Magistrate Clive Nurse read the charge to him. He was not required to enter a plea and has been remanded to prison until his next court appearance on September 23, 2025.
The case has drawn attention due to the serious nature of the allegations, and further legal proceedings are expected in the coming weeks.
