News

A 22-year-old taxi driver from Sophia, identified as Tyrese Blair, was arrested yesterday during an intelligence-led operation conducted by an Intelligence Officer and ranks from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit in the ‘D’ Field area.

The operation took place around 2:00 PM when officers observed a white Allion motor car, registration number PAG 3549, parked on the western side of the ‘D’ Field access road. At the time, the vehicle was unoccupied, with all windows up and doors locked. A group of males was seen loitering nearby.

When officers approached the group to inquire about the vehicle’s ownership, Blair identified himself as the owner. A search was conducted on his person, but no illegal items were found. Officers then requested Blair to unlock his car. Upon searching the vehicle, they discovered a black Beretta 9mm pistol, which lacked a serial number, concealed under the gear shift boot between the front seats. The firearm was accompanied by one magazine containing five live 9mm rounds of ammunition.

When questioned about possessing a firearm license, Blair admitted he did not hold one. He was informed of the charges against him, arrested, and transported to the Turkeyen Police Station along with the vehicle, firearm, and ammunition.

Blair is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
