Reported by Rawle Toney : Emanuel Archibald is set to represent Guyana as the nation’s sole athlete at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan. Competing in the men’s Long Jump, Archibald carries the hopes of his country on the global stage.

The accomplished athlete enters the competition with a personal best jump of 8.22 meters, a mark that not only stands as Guyana’s national record but also ranks as the 16th best jump in the world this season. Archibald has firmly established himself in the annals of Guyanese athletics, having broken the long-standing national record previously held by Mark Mason in 2019. Mason’s record of 8.07 meters, set in 1993, was surpassed by Archibald’s impressive leap of 8.12 meters.
In addition to his long jump accolades, Archibald is also the national record holder in the 100 meters. He is notable for being the only Guyanese to win the 100 meters at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games. His impressive resume includes a bronze medal in the 100 meters at the Pan American Games and participation in two Olympic Games—Tokyo and Paris.
Archibald further solidified his status as a top athlete by winning a silver medal at the 2021 South American Games. As he prepares for this prestigious championship, all eyes are on Archibald as he aims to make history for Guyana once again.
