Motorcyclist and Passenger Killed in East Berbice Collision

A tragic accident on the Number 11 Public Road has claimed the lives of a motorcyclist and his pillion rider in the early hours of Sunday, September 14, 2025.

The deceased have been identified as 29-year-old Kris Ramphal from Chesney, Corentyne, and 18-year-old Malcolm Pirtan, known as Malie, from Lot 135 Fyrish Village, Corentyne.

According to police reports, the collision occurred around 01:40 hours when Ramphal was riding motorcycle number CP 8880 westward at a high speed, with Pirtan as his passenger. Neither was wearing a safety helmet at the time.

The motorcar involved in the incident, identified as number HC 4710, was driven by 48-year-old Madray Ramsammy from Lancaster Village, who was heading in the opposite direction. Ramsammy reported that the motorcycle had no headlight and was approaching in his lane. He attempted to swerve right to avoid a collision, but the motorcycle struck the left front side of his car.

Following the impact, both Ramphal and Pirtan were thrown onto the northern side of the road, suffering severe injuries. They were picked up by bystanders in unconscious conditions and transported to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Both bodies have been taken to the Arokium Funeral Home, pending post-mortem examinations.

Ramsammy was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody at the Central Police Station as the investigation continues.
