Ms. Colleen Benn and her three children, ages 5, 13, and 14, have realized their dream of homeownership with the keys to a new house in Lust-en-Rust, West Bank Demerara. After years of renting and moving between relatives, this milestone was made possible through the Ministry of Housing’s Core Home Support Programme.

So far, 124 families have been selected for the initiative on the West Bank, with 51 homes already handed over, 50 occupied, and 43 under construction.

Housing Minister Collin Croal and Minister Vanessa Benn praised the programme for its positive impact on the lives of ordinary Guyanese. Reflecting on her journey, Ms. Benn expressed relief and gratitude, saying, “I feel more relaxed now having my own space.”

The Core Home Support Programme aims to provide safe, affordable housing while promoting community development. For Ms. Benn and her children, the new home symbolizes stability and hope for the future.
