Weekly Progress Reports Required for School Projects in Region Seven- Minister Parag

Contractors in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) are now mandated to submit weekly progress reports, complete with photographs, for all infrastructural projects under the Ministry of Education. This directive, issued by Minister of Education Honourable Sonia Parag, aims to enhance oversight and ensure timely project completion.

Minister Parag, accompanied by Honourable Pauline Sukhai, Minister Within the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, conducted an inspection of ongoing projects in the region on Saturday. “We want to keep track of the percentage of works and have visuals of what is happening on the ground,” she stated.

The inspection began at the Three Mile Secondary School Dormitory, which is slated for completion in December. Due to delays, Minister Parag has instructed the contractor to extend working hours and increase manpower. The contractor has agreed to these terms despite challenges in obtaining construction materials.

The Three Mile Dormitory project involves renovating the existing building and constructing a new facility for female students. The ministers also visited the Secondary School Dormitory in Bartica, where three separate buildings are being constructed. One of these buildings is set to be handed over on Wednesday, with the project approximately 70 percent complete and expected to finish by the end of October.

Progress on a similar project in Karrau has also been hindered by material sourcing issues. Nevertheless, both ministers stressed the urgency for contractors to expedite their efforts to meet deadlines. “We are dealing with children, so we have to work,” Minister Parag emphasized, highlighting the importance of these investments in expanding education access in hinterland regions.

Minister Sukhai echoed her sentiments, reinforcing the government’s commitment to ensuring timely completion of all awarded contracts. In the coming weeks, Minister Parag, along with Permanent Secretary Shannielle Hoosein-Outar and Chief Education Officer Saddam Hussain, will continue to visit various projects across the country.
