After serving as Councillor, Regional Chairman, and Mayor, Sharma Raheem Solomon has announced his decision to step down as Mayor of Linden to embark on a new chapter in public life as a member of the National Assembly.

In a heartfelt message, Solomon expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him by the people of Linden and Region Ten, stating, “Representing the people has always been a humbled privilege and honor.” He reflected on his over two-decade journey as an activist, where he stood alongside families facing challenges such as job losses in the bauxite industry and the impact of natural disasters.

Solomon emphasized the resilience and solidarity of the community during difficult times, recalling moments of mourning and the quest for justice. “I have seen their struggles, felt their pain, and helped to wipe the tears of mothers mourning the loss of their sons,” he stated, highlighting the importance of addressing the needs of marginalized voices.

As he prepares to transition to the National Assembly, Solomon acknowledged the challenges ahead, particularly following the September 1, 2025 General and Regional Elections. He encouraged his fellow comrades in the People’s National Congress (PNC) and the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) to remain steadfast, saying, “The road ahead will not be easy! It will demand courage, energy, and commitment.”

He called on supporters to exhibit patience and loyalty, reminding them of the strength found in unity and hope. “Let no setback dim your resolve. Let courage, unity, and an unbreakable spirit guide us,” he urged.

Concluding his message, Solomon affirmed that Linden is not just a location but a symbol of resilience, emphasizing that “all Guyanese are important and valued members of this nation.” He pledged to carry these principles to the National Assembly, ensuring that every voice is heard and empowered.
