Tragedy struck Queenstown Village, Essequibo Coast, on Monday when a one-year-nine-month-old boy, identified as Devon Walker, drowned in a trench near his home around 17:30 hours.

Reports indicate that the toddler wandered off unnoticed and was later found motionless in the trench. Despite desperate efforts by residents to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several residents, alerted by cries for help, rushed to assist but were unable to prevent the tragedy.

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Further updates will follow as the investigation progresses.
