Akon Arrested in Georgia on Outstanding Warrant

Acclaimed singer and producer Akon, whose real name is Aliaune Thiam, was arrested in Georgia on November 7 after local authorities discovered an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The 52-year-old artist was taken into custody by Chamblee Police after being found stranded on the side of the road with his Tesla Cybertruck, which had a dead battery.

Reportedly, police issued the warrant approximately two months prior when they learned that Akon was driving with a suspended license—a consequence of failing to appear in court for an earlier matter in January 2023. During the incident, officers issued him a citation, confiscated an illegal vape, and towed his vehicle.

Following his arrest, Akon was booked at DeKalb County jail and held for several hours before being released later that same day. His mugshot, released by the authorities, shows him in a black hoodie and appearing mostly expressionless.

As of now, Akon’s representatives have not publicly commented on the incident. The artist, known for his major hits in the 2000s like “Lonely,” “I Wanna Love You,” and “Smack That,” has solidified his place as one of the defining voices of that era and a five-time Grammy nominee.
