WIN Team Delivers Relief to Vulnerable Communities through Hamper Giving Initiative

The We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) team has further demonstrated its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities with another successful Hamper Giving Friday, this time providing essential relief to families in Waiakabra and Yarrowkabra.

Among the recipients were senior citizens and individuals battling chronic illnesses, as well as people with disabilities who struggle to live on the government’s inadequate disability allowance of just GYD $22,009. This situation has been described as a profound failure of governance.

One touching moment occurred when a young man, who is deaf and non-verbal, used sign language to convey his gratitude to the WIN team, highlighting the emotional impact of these efforts on the most overlooked members of society.

Residents also voiced urgent concerns about their community conditions. In Kuru Kururu North, families reported a lack of water and electricity, alongside poorly developed roads that complicate daily life. The challenges are similar in Kuru Kururu Extension, where residents face the same lack of basic utilities and inadequate street lighting, leaving the area in a state of neglect.

In Waiakabra, residents complained about filthy and unsafe water from GWI pipelines and reiterated issues with poor infrastructure and a lack of street lighting, which have created unsafe living conditions. Meanwhile, Yarrowkabra residents highlighted limited job opportunities, unreliable transportation, and significant gaps in basic infrastructure.

Many families emphasized that these long-standing issues have persisted for decades, challenging their safety, mobility, and ability to earn a living.

With nearly half of Guyana’s population living below the poverty line and rising food prices, WIN Hamper Giving Fridays continue to provide crucial comfort and support to those in need. Residents expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the WIN team and Leader Azruddin Mohamed, thanking them for listening to their concerns and offering genuine support in place of the government’s unmet obligations.
