President Irfaan Ali has unveiled ambitious plans aimed at significantly expanding home ownership in Region Six, promising to deliver house lots to every eligible applicant within the next five years.
Addressing a gathering of hundreds at the Classic Tarmac in Corriverton, President Ali stated that the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA) is ramping up investment to unlock new housing opportunities throughout the region.
“In this five years, we want to bring the demand and supply to zero. That is, we must deliver house lots to every single person who has an application in the system,” he declared, eliciting enthusiastic applause from residents eager for this long-awaited relief.
The President highlighted ongoing land development projects in Moleson Creek and Palmyra, which feature new infrastructure such as a four-lane highway and crucial farm-to-market access roads. These projects aim to not only facilitate new housing areas but also enhance community connectivity and stimulate economic activity across Berbice.
Addressing concerns related to land regularization, President Ali noted that many schemes in Region Six are hindered by boundary disputes and unresolved ownership issues. To tackle this, a specialized mechanism will be established in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Chambers.
“We are going to hire independent lawyers to expedite the land regularization process in Region Six so that we can move to the titling and transporting of those lands,” he assured the audience.
Looking ahead to the region’s agricultural and commercial prospects, President Ali announced plans to make thousands of acres available as the government collaborates with various agencies, including the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) and the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission. The objective is to develop new plots, construct access roads, and enhance farm-to-market connections to support housing expansion and food production.
“We are going to create infrastructure in the hub—create 10-acre plots to start with—so that all of the new applicants can be supported,” he emphasized, reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusive growth.
For families in Region Six, this announcement represents not just new housing developments but a pathway to opportunity, stability, and long-awaited ownership.
