Authorities in Regional Division number 8 are currently investigating an incident involving the recovery of suspected cannabis during an operation in Campbelltown Village, Potaro, on Thursday.

The operation targeted local traffic when police stopped a motorcycle driven by a 28-year-old vendor identified as a resident of Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara, and Block 22 Wismar, Linden. The rider, who was observed carrying a bulky plastic bag, attempted to evade law enforcement but lost control of the motorcycle and was subsequently apprehended.
A thorough search of the suspect and his vehicle revealed a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems, which were identified as suspected cannabis, contained within the plastic bag. The suspect was arrested on the spot and taken to the Mahdia Police Station along with the motorcycle and the retrieved narcotics.
At the station, the suspected cannabis was weighed in the presence of the suspect, totaling approximately 4.385 kilograms. The substances have since been processed and secured as investigations continue into the incident and the individual’s activities. The police have not released further details regarding the vendor’s potential charges or the ongoing investigation.
