A 37-year-old Security Officer from Klien Pouderoyen, West Coast Demerara (WCD), was arrested on Friday following the discovery of a quantity of cannabis along the Mazaruni River in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
According to police reports, officers were conducting a riverine patrol between the Bartica Stelling and Mazaruni Prison when they intercepted a vessel for inspection. During the search of the security officer and his belongings, police discovered two bulky parcels of cannabis concealed in a pair of long boots belonging to him.
The seized cannabis weighed a total of 674 grams. The suspect was escorted to the Bartica Police Station, where the drugs were documented. He remains in custody as investigations continue into the incident.
