A fire erupted around noon on Tuesday, causing significant damage to the home of 48-year-old Ishmael King and his 20-year-old son, Aniel King, in Mount Sinai, New Amsterdam.

The fire quickly engulfed the wooden and concrete structure, resulting in injuries to Aniel, who was cooking lunch at home when the incident occurred. Ishmael was out working as a vendor when he received the alarming news about the fire.
Despite the extensive damage and loss of nearly all their possessions, Ishmael expressed gratitude that his son survived the ordeal. The fire destroyed clothing, furniture, appliances, and approximately $250,000 that Ishmael had saved for his business. Aniel also lost critical personal items, including his passport and ID card.
The total estimated losses for the Kings, including the structure of their home, amount to nearly $6 million. The Guyana Fire Service is currently conducting investigations into the cause of the fire.
