An unidentified man has tragically died after being struck by a speeding driver on the Orangestein Public Road early Sunday morning.

According to reports from Police Headquarters, the accident occurred at approximately 4:10 AM and involved motor car PAB 2332, which was driven by a 25-year-old male from Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the vehicle was traveling east along the northern side of the roadway at a high rate of speed when the pedestrian, who was also walking east on the northern side, reportedly ran across the road from north to south into the vehicle’s path. The driver attempted to swerve to avoid a collision; however, the front left side of the car struck the pedestrian before the vehicle ended up in the southern trench.

As a result of the collision, the pedestrian sustained multiple injuries and was found in an unconscious state. He was rushed to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The body has since been transported to Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver, who is currently in custody. Authorities reported that no alcohol was detected in his system.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing as police work to gather further details.
