A fisherman has been reported missing after an incident during a fishing expedition on Friday. The individual, identified as Permaul Punsammy, hails from Lot 201 Whim, Corentyne Berbice.

According to statements from his brother, Pellay Punsammy, Permaul set out early in the morning with his older brother and two other men from the Number 66 landing site on November 26, 2025. The group had planned to return to Guyana on December 21 or 22.
Family members received alarming news from the captain of the boat regarding the incident. Pellay recounted that Permaul was in the process of casting a seine into the river when he unexpectedly fell overboard. Despite immediate search efforts by the crew, Permaul could not be located.
The incident has been officially reported to the Whim Police Station. Pellay expressed deep concern for his brother’s safety and stated that family and friends are conducting ongoing searches.
“I am hoping they can find him. We need some assistance from the Government to get some boats to patrol on the shore,” Pellay said.
Permaul Punsammy is a seasoned fisherman with over 32 years of experience. He is also a father of six and, earlier this year, faced tragedy when he lost his home to a fire. As the community rallies for his safe return, the urgency of the search efforts continues to grow.
