Police are conducting an investigation following the recovery of a suspected illegal firearm and ammunition during an intelligence-led operation on Monday around noon.
During the operation, officers observed a 33-year-old businessman displaying suspicious behavior in Vryheid’s Lust. As police approached him, the suspect discarded an object into a nearby trench, prompting officers to conduct a search of the area.
The search resulted in the recovery of a suspected 9mm pistol along with a magazine containing six live rounds of ammunition.
The suspect was arrested on the scene and transported to the Sparendaam Police Station, where the recovered firearm and ammunition were lodged pending further investigation.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect remains in police custody as investigations into the incident are ongoing.
