More than 260 contractors have submitted applications to participate in Guyana’s ambitious housing program aimed at delivering 40,000 homes over the next five years. Housing Minister Collin Croal announced this development on Saturday, highlighting the government’s response to the rising demand for turnkey housing solutions.

The Ministry of Housing has received 268 expressions of interest (EOIs) from various contractors, including firms specializing in modular construction. In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Croal acknowledged that while the government had distributed around 53,000 house lots in the past five years, only approximately 4,000 houses were constructed during that time, which included both turnkey houses and units for young professionals.
With the new initiative, the government aims to build an estimated 8,000 homes annually. The EOIs issued by the Ministry of Housing and the Central Housing and Planning Authority invite contractors to propose building housing units across all administrative regions of Guyana through public-private partnerships.
The proposed housing units will vary in size, ranging from low-income homes of about 650 square feet to high-income houses of up to 1,800 square feet, along with young professional units of at least 2,200 square feet. All units will be delivered either as flat or elevated structures, complete with standard finishes.
The EOIs closed on October 24, 2025, and successful bidders may be invited to construct one or multiple housing models under the national program.
Minister Croal noted that modular construction could significantly enhance the government’s ability to deliver homes rapidly, especially as demand increases among young professionals who prefer completed houses over serviced land. He emphasized, “As people become professionals, they are busy and many do not want the hassle of managing contractors or sourcing materials.”
Construction under this new program is expected to commence in 2026, with sites already identified nationwide. Croal announced that engagements with shortlisted contractors will begin shortly as the government moves forward with this crucial housing initiative.
