The Guyana Police Force (GPF) is issuing a serious warning about the increased sale and use of firecrackers and similar explosive devices during the New Year’s period. Recognizing the potential dangers associated with these items, the GPF aims to protect both users and innocent bystanders from serious bodily harm and injury.

The Force highlighted past incidents where both children and adults suffered grievous injuries due to firecracker usage. Therefore, they urge the public to exercise care and caution, acting responsibly when considering the purchase or use of these explosives.
Anyone found selling or in possession of firecrackers without the necessary permits will face prosecution under the law. According to Section 13(1) and (2) of the Explosives Act Chapter 16:06, the sale and distribution of explosives require permission from the Minister. Violators will be subject to the full force of the law.
Regional Commanders have been instructed to enhance law enforcement efforts to prevent the distribution of firecrackers, including conducting raids and searches based on intelligence received, and seizing any detected items related to illegal sales.
The GPF emphasizes the importance of public safety during this festive season and calls for community cooperation in adhering to these regulations.
