Five residents from Region One have been arrested and charged for operating a motor vehicle with breath alcohol levels exceeding the legal limit, in violation of Section 39A (1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02.

On Monday, January 5, 2026, the five accused appeared at the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Clive Nurse. Each of them pleaded guilty to the charges. Consequently, they were fined $200,000, with a default sentence of five months’ imprisonment for non-payment.
This enforcement action reflects ongoing efforts by authorities to combat driving under the influence and ensure road safety in the region.
