Two men were taken into custody on Monday night following the discovery of a firearm and ammunition in their vehicle during an intelligence-led police operation.

The suspects, identified as a 42-year-old taxi driver from East La Penitence and a 23-year-old labourer from Tucville, Georgetown, were apprehended around 11:40 PM along Heroes Highway near the Anteater Roundabout.
Police on mobile patrol intercepted a Toyota Axio motor car traveling west when they noticed suspicious behavior from one of the occupants. This prompted police ranks to conduct a search of the vehicle, leading to the recovery of a 9mm Smith & Wesson pistol and a magazine containing 12 live rounds.
Both suspects remain in police custody as investigations into the incident are ongoing. Police have not disclosed whether the men will face charges or any potential court appearances. The operation underscores the police’s commitment to addressing firearm-related crimes in the region.
