HGP NIGHTLY NEWS REPORTS – Pandit Walks Free After Court Upholds No-Case Submission. A 67-year-old farmer and businessman, Khemraj Persaud, also known as “Pandit,” walked free today after a magistrate upheld a no-case submission at the conclusion of the preliminary inquiry into the murder of Chormanie Tulsie, called Anits.

The ruling was delivered at the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court, effectively ending the case against Persaud, who had been charged with murdering Tulsie between November 21 and 22, 2023, at Unity, East Coast Demerara.

He was represented by attorneys Dr. Dexter Todd and Dexter Smart of Dr. Todd and Associates Law Firm and Everton Singh- Lammy .

Persaud was initially remanded to prison in July 2024 after making his first appearance before Magistrate Alan Wilson.

Prosecutors alleged that Tulsie was brutally killed, found gagged, with a knife stuck in her throat in the lower flat of her home.

The crime had shocked the community, particularly because the woman’s five-year-old son was present in the house.

Police had first detained three persons, including Persaud, who were later released on station bail as investigations continued.

New information subsequently led to Persaud’s re-arrest, amid claims that he was close to the victim and frequently visited her home.

However, following the completion of the prosecution’s case at the preliminary inquiry, the court ruled that there was insufficient evidence to require Persaud to stand trial.

With the no-case submission upheld, the businessman was discharged, bringing the high-profile matter to a close.
