A 13-year-old boy was shot Wednesday morning by a licensed firearm holder after allegedly attempting to rob an 81-year-old man in front of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Brickdam. The incident took place around 10:15 AM.

According to police reports, the elderly victim, a pensioner, was walking with his 79-year-old brother to conduct business when one of two suspects approached them on a bicycle, armed with a knife, and attempted to snatch a haversack from the man.

The victim raised an alarm, prompting members of the public to intervene. During this commotion, a 25-year-old licensed firearm holder, who was in the vicinity, intervened by firing at the suspects, striking the teenage assailant in the process.

The second suspect managed to flee the scene in an unknown direction. Emergency Medical Technicians were called to assist, and the injured boy was transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he is currently receiving medical treatment for his gunshot wound.

Police confirmed that they are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and have secured the firearm used in the incident for further investigation. The incident has raised concerns regarding safety and vigilantism as communities grapple with rising crime rates.
